Leonardo’s notebooks reunited online after four centuries

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

For the first time in more than 400 years, two of the world’s most important collections of Leonardo da Vinci’s manuscripts have been virtually reunited through a single digital platform. The new initiative, called Leonardotheka, gives researchers and the public unprecedented access to thousands of pages documenting the thoughts, sketches, scientific observations, and inventions of one of history’s greatest minds.

By using advanced digital technology rather than moving the fragile originals, the project restores connections that had been lost since the late Renaissance. Leonardo left behind thousands of handwritten pages covering an astonishing range of subjects.
