A new effort in Jefferson County is aiming to preserve the stories of Italian families who helped shape the Ohio Valley, while also creating space to recognize the region’s many other cultural roots. The Italian American Cultural Club has started a program that allows the group to select a college student for an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy through the National Italian American Foundation.
At the Jefferson County Historical Association museum, organizers are also working to collect and protect local history tied to immigration and ethnic heritage. Joan McGlone, treasurer for the Jefferson County Historical Association, said the goal is “share the information that we have, to capture more information, and to preserve it here at the museum.”
