Italy’s transplant system is showing strong performance and steady improvement – in 2024 the country carried out a total of 4,642 transplants, marking an increase of approximately 3.9% over the previous year.
Among these, 179 were urgent cases (with 75 liver transplants, 86 heart, 14 lung and 4 kidney) and 191 were pediatric interventions (79 liver, 76 kidney, 32 heart and 4 lung). The hospital with the highest volume was Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino with 440 transplants, followed by Ospedale di Padova at 413 and ISMETT Palermo at 276.
