Italy’s tourism strategy focuses on year-round growth and Rome’s luxury hotel boom

Italy is refining its long-term vision for tourism, setting out a plan that emphasizes resilience, diversity, and steady growth across all twelve months of the year. The government has identified two clear priorities – extending the tourist season beyond traditional peaks and widening the scope of experiences offered to visitors. The objective is not only to make tourism more dynamic, but also to ensure its benefits are spread across the entire territory, from iconic cities to smaller towns and inland regions.

The numbers underline the importance of this approach. Italy welcomed nearly 58 million international arrivals last year, ranking fifth among the most visited countries worldwide. Within Europe, it stands first for regional tourism competitiveness and second for overnight stays, with only Spain ahead. Officials expect Italy to climb higher in the global rankings soon, especially with new strategies in place.
