Italy is steadily moving toward a cashless economy, with digital payments becoming a routine part of everyday life. According to a 2026 report presented by the Community Cashless Society, about 75.1% of recurring expenses in Italy are now paid using digital tools such as cards, apps, or smartphones.
This marks a clear shift in consumer behavior, confirming that electronic payments are no longer an alternative, but a dominant method for managing regular financial activities. Usage frequency has also increased significantly. Around 64.2% of Italians report using digital payment methods daily or several times a week, up from 57.4% in 2024.
