Italy is experiencing a remarkable rise in the number of people who reach or surpass their 100th birthday. As of January 1, 2025, the country counted 23,548 centenarians – more than 2,000 additional individuals compared to the previous year, when the total stood a little above 21,000.
Women represent the overwhelming majority, making up more than four out of five centenarians. Among those who reach 105 or older, the share of women becomes even more pronounced.
