Italy introduces concrete support for young people looking to buy a home

While it’s true that, at present, mortgage payments in Italy can often be more affordable than rent—especially in major cities—the real challenge of buying a home through financing is coming up with the down payment. Italian banks typically finance up to 80% of a property’s value, and securing a 100% mortgage is difficult.
 
These full-financing loans tend to be more expensive and require additional guarantees beyond those needed for a standard mortgage. For most young Italians, buying a home without family support remains a “luxury” few can afford.
