Italy’s universities are strengthening their position on the global academic stage, with new international rankings showing notable progress for many of the country’s leading institutions. The latest QS World University Rankings 2027 indicate that Italy is one of the few major European nations to improve its overall performance, reflecting growing international recognition of its higher education system.
A total of 43 Italian universities were included in the ranking, with several institutions posting significant gains. The strongest Italian performer remains the Sapienza University of Rome, which climbed to 111th place worldwide. Although still just outside the global top 100, the university continues to rank among Europe’s most respected academic institutions and remains a leader in several specialized disciplines.
