A 39-year-old man, previously healthy and physically active, saw his life collapse after two COVID-19 infections. What followed was a severe case of Long Covid marked by persistent fatigue, cognitive impairment, insomnia, and dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. For months, no treatment worked. Then an experimental Italian therapy changed everything.
The case, published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, comes from a collaboration between two leading research centers in Rome – Istituto Nazionale per le Malattie Infettive Lazzaro Spallanzani and Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù – and could represent a turning point in how Long Covid is understood and treated.
