In 2025, real per-person spending in Italy reached €22,114 – higher than the €19,322 of 1995 but still about €220 below the 2007 peak. Over three decades, Italian households have transformed how they allocate their money, and the overall balance of priorities looks very different today compared to the mid-1990s.
Technology and communication have seen the sharpest rise. Outlays on computers, phones, and related digital services have soared by almost 3,000 percent. Leisure has followed the same upward trajectory, with spending on cultural and recreational activities climbing more than 120 percent. These two areas highlight how daily life has shifted toward connectivity and experiences that go beyond basic needs.
