By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

In northern Italy a quietly revolutionary experiment in building is taking shape – what until recently was considered agricultural waste, the husks and chaff left after rice harvesting, is now at the center of an ambitious and distinctly Italian construction project that aims to rethink how sustainable homes are made.

Leading this effort is Ricehouse, an Italian startup founded in 2016 with the goal of transforming rice by-products into high-performance, environmentally responsible building materials while strengthening a circular economy rooted in local resources and traditions.
