Across Italy, a growing network of solidarity supermarkets is offering a different kind of response to food poverty, one that puts dignity and choice at the center of basic survival. Known as Market solidali, these community markets function much like traditional grocery stores, but without cash registers, price tags, or the stress of paying at checkout.
Instead, people and families facing economic hardship shop for groceries and household goods using a monthly points card, allowing them to choose what they need with autonomy rather than receiving pre-packed food parcels.
