How to reach one of Sardinia’s most remote beaches

There are beaches you visit and others you remember for years. Cala Mariolu definitely falls into the second group. A natural amphitheatre of white rock and crystal-clear water, the sea here shifts colour throughout the day, from deep emerald to intense turquoise. Reached either by boat or along panoramic trails in the Supramonte mountains, this wild bay is often ranked among the most beautiful in Sardinia.

Where is Cala Mariolu and what makes it unique?
Cala Mariolu lies on the Gulf of Orosei, in the Baunei area, along a rugged coastline that alternates between sheer white cliffs and tiny hidden coves. The water shimmers in shades of turquoise and emerald, while the shoreline is covered in pale and pink, rounded pebbles known locally as pulci di neve (“snow fleas”).
