Italy is currently facing one of its most severe housing crises in recent decades, with both historical city centers and suburban areas affected. From north to south, major cities are struggling with exorbitant rental prices, a lack of affordable housing, and a rise in tourism that is overwhelming local communities.

The shortage of clear regulations and political inertia has allowed overtourism and short-term rentals to exacerbate the gentrification process, pushing residents out of historic areas into increasingly distant and impoverished suburbs.
