The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco announces its intention to appoint the head of the Office of the Honorary Consul in San José, California.
The Honorary Consul, who will operate under the direction of the Consulate General in San Francisco, will be primarily responsible for providing assistance to Italian citizens and protecting Italian interests within the territory under the office’s jurisdiction.
Please note that the selection process will NOT be conducted through a competitive examination or any comparable selection procedure.
Honorary consular officers are selected by the competent authority – the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – preferably from among Italian citizens who enjoy a strong reputation and standing and who can be fully relied upon to properly perform consular duties, pursuant to Article 47, paragraph 1, of Presidential Decree No. 18 of January 5, 1967, and in accordance with the procedures established by Ministry Circular No. 7/2024.
Candidates should also have a sufficient command of the Italian language.
Please note that appointment to an honorary consular position does NOT constitute public employment or an employer-employee relationship. It is a voluntary service position involving the performance of honorary duties on behalf of the Italian government.
