The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco announces its intention to appoint the Head of the Honorary Consular Office in Sacramento, California.
The Honorary Consul, who will operate under the direction of the Consulate General in San Francisco, will primarily be responsible for providing assistance to Italian citizens and protecting Italian interests within the consular district.
Please note that the selection will NOT take place through a competitive examination or any comparable selection procedure.
Honorary consular officers are selected by the competent authority – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – “from among individuals, preferably Italian citizens, who enjoy esteem and prestige and provide full assurance that they are capable of adequately performing consular duties” (Article 47, paragraph 1, of Presidential Decree No. 18 of January 5, 1967), in accordance with the procedures and provisions set forth in MAECI Circular No. 7/2024.
Candidates should also have a sufficient command of the Italian language.
Please note: appointment to an honorary consular position does NOT constitute public employment or an employer-employee relationship. Rather, it is a voluntary service arrangement involving the performance of honorary duties on behalf of the Italian State.
