The next major transformation in cruising may be almost invisible to passengers. It will not necessarily appear in the shape of a ship, the design of its suites, or the amenities available on deck. Instead, it will operate deep inside the vessel through artificial intelligence, real-time data, advanced sensors, and a constantly evolving digital architecture.
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has introduced Navis Sapiens, Latin for “intelligent ship,” a digital ecosystem designed to allow vessels to learn, adapt, and improve throughout their operating lives. The technology was recently highlighted in South Florida, one of the world’s most important centers for the cruise industry.
