New cannoli eating contests, the return of a kids' pizza-making contest and Chef's Choice Recipe Contest, chef demonstrations, wine tasting and a variety of new vendor foods all will await hungry visitors July 17 to 19 at Festa Italiana, known as much for its food as anything else, at the Summerfest grounds.
The Cannoli Championship Showdown at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Festa will pit six-time consecutive and current champion Anthony Paulis, looking to break his record of 10¼ full-sized cannoli, vs. Tom Carlson, who has a solid record of second-place finishes. A cannoli eating contest for 10 lucky Festa-goers will follow.
