Italy's employment rate reached 60.5% in October, the highest level on record since the start of the statistical series on this factor in 1977, ISTAT said on Thursday. The national statistics agency said the number of people in work increased by 82,000 with respect to September, taking the employment rate up by 0.4 of a percentage point.
It said 23.231 million people were in employment in Italy in October, 496,000 more than in the same month last year. It said the rise was driven by more people being employed on permanent labour contracts, which were up by 117,000 on September and by 502,000 with respect to October 2021. ISTAT said the unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 of a point to 7.8% in October.
