Emilia Romagna delegation builds new ties across Italian communities in the US

From April 11–17, 2026 the Consulta of Emilia Romagna residents abroad, is traveling across the United States for an institutional mission aimed at strengthening connections with both long-established communities and newer professional networks. The trip includes 3 key stops – New York, Fresno, and San Francisco – and reflects a strategy to link historic migration roots with more recent mobility trends.

In New York, the focus is on legacy organizations that trace back to migration waves from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Meetings are scheduled with Italian and Italian American leaders, along with participation in the 36th Annual Dinner and Dance of The Valtarese Foundation and an event connected to Festival Verdi at Lincoln Center. The agenda also includes a visit to the Italian Consulate General, where discussions will involve Consul Giuseppe Pastorelli and other institutional representatives.

The West Coast portion highlights newer and more dynamic networks. In Fresno, the Consulta is set to meet Mayor Jerry Dyer and members of the local community with ties to Varsi, in the province of Parma. A gathering at Parma Restaurant will bring together residents and representatives, including Honorary Vice Consul Edward D. Fanucchi.

In San Francisco, the mission turns toward innovation and younger generations. Meetings with Comites representatives, professionals in tech and academia, and members of the Emilia Romagna community are planned. A visit to La Scuola International School, led by Valentina Imbeni and inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, underscores the importance of education and cultural exchange.

Overall, the initiative aims to reinforce a transatlantic network that connects tradition, identity, and new professional opportunities.
