An Omaha couple who met at a dance says the secret to 75 years of marriage is simple: just keep talking. Pop into Sons of Italy, and you’re sure to recognize Joe and Loretta Caniglia. They’re considered to be pillars of the Little Italy community. They even volunteer at Sons of Italy and Santa Lucia Festival.
They were just 18 and 16 when they met at a St. John’s dance. Reaching a 75th wedding anniversary is rare, something fewer than 1% of the U.S. population ever achieves. “I think the reason why we got married so young is Korea is just starting, and I knew I was going to be drafted into the Korean conflict, which I did 7 months later,” Joe Caniglia said.
