For nearly two decades, the Columbus Fountain in front of Washington’s Union Station was nonfunctional. Now, water is flowing again after 19 years. Department of Interior Secretary Doug Burgum took to social media on Thursday to announce the fountain's reopening.
"Columbus Circle is a historic front door to Washington, D.C. and thanks to @POTUS, today it is once again ready to welcome the public!," Burgum wrote. The 15-feet tall monument at the center of the fountain was erected and dedicated in 1912 and commemorates Christopher Columbus' 1492 voyage.
