Capri’s new marine reserve makes the Gulf of Naples Italy’s first fully protected gulf

Capri is set to receive its own marine protected area after Italy’s Parliament gave final approval to legislation establishing a dedicated conservation framework for the island. The measure completes a coordinated network of protected waters across the Gulf of Naples, making it the first Italian gulf entirely safeguarded through an interconnected system of marine reserves.

The new protected area surrounding Capri will join the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area, the Regno di Nettuno reserve around Ischia and Procida, the submerged archaeological parks of Baia and Gaiola, and the Vivara State Nature Reserve.
