Camp Darby Honors 9/11 Victims with Memorial Ceremony and Firefighter Challenge

The military community at Camp Darby gathered Sept. 11 to commemorate the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with its annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. Service members, civilians and emergency personnel paid tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost, including first responders who perished in the line of duty. The solemn event underscored the enduring legacy of sacrifice and resilience.

Following the ceremony, the USAG-Italy Fire Department hosted a public Firefighter Challenge, drawing participants and spectators from across the installation. The challenge featured a series of grueling physical tasks — including a charged hose pull, dummy drag, Keiser sled and tire flip — designed to simulate real-life emergency scenarios.
