The team of Boeing and Italian company Leonardo will supply 13 units of the MH-139A Grey Wolf multimission helicopter to the U.S. Air Force under a $285 million production contract. Boeing said Tuesday the award covers sustainment and other support services for the platform selected by USAF to replace the branch’s UH-1N Huey twin-piloted light-lift helicopter.
USAF chose the MH-139 offering for its potential 13-year, $2.38 billion aircraft replacement program announced in September 2018 and accepted four test Grey Wolf articles in August 2022. Prime contractor Boeing handles military equipment procurement, installation and post-delivery support functions, while Leonardo is the program’s original equipment manufacturer. Under the latest award, the companies aim to start deliveries in 2024.
