Alfonso Panico elected New Director of the Executive Board of the OMRI Association Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana of New Jersey

Panico’s appointment was approved during a recent meeting of the executive and was announced by the President of the OMRI Association (Order Al Merito of the Italian Republic) Comm. Giulio Picolli: "At the meeting of the executive board on August 21, 2025 the Board approved the nomination of Cav. Alfonso Panico as member of the Executive Board of our association.

As by Statute, the proposal was presented by the undersigned and supported by Cav. Thomas Bellavia. After a brief presentation, since we all know Cav. Panico for over two decades, very qualified and a prominent personality in our community.  His experience and the relational abilities are characteristic to be added to the large number of Cavalieri e Commendatori with high professional profiles in our association.”

Panico former Consul of Italy in Connrecticut, journalist, freelancer, owner of the “ Al Panico Insurance  and Real Estate, “ was the Correspondent of the famous daily  paper “ Il Progresso Italo Americano“ and “America Oggi“ currently collaborator of the Voice  of New York and the weekly magazine “GIA (Italo American newspaper)”and other  Italian newspapers. In 1998, Panico has published “The Italians of the New New Haven " and later in 2000, “ The Italians Of America", a book dedicated to Italian and Italian-American personalities in the United States.

He is a Knight of the Italian Solidarity Star Order, an honor bestowed on him by the President of the Republic of Italy Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, in 2005, and has been a Director of the "ASILM (American Society of the Italian Legion of Merit) “ of New York for the two-year period 2006-2007.

Panico, for more than thirty years has been active in the Italian community,  as spokesman for the needs of the italians in our community . In New Haven for many years  he promoted the celebrations in honor of Christoforo Colombo, serving as General Chairman, President and Chairman  of the Board of The  Columbus Day Commitee Inc. 

From 1990 to 1996, Panico served as  a member of Comites New York and Connecticut, carrying out voluntary service in favor of the Community with great sense of dedication and attachment to his homeland and paying particular attention to the elderly. 

Panico is a  'Member of the Overseas Press Club of America, a member of  the Connecticut Italian America Bar Association CIABA, the National Association of Financial Advisers, the National Italian Foundation of Washington  D.C. and he is a n executive member of the New York branch of the National Carabinieri Association. In 1989, he was awarded the title of Commendatore Magistrale  of the Order of San Georgio in Carinthia and the title of Commendatore of the Royal Order of Cyprus della Spada e del Silenzio al Merito. 

During his career Panico  has received numerous Professional, Community Service Awards and  Man of the Year Award by many italian american associations  of the Try State:  Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
