Air Force veterans reunite 50 years after historic Italian earthquake

Nearly 50 years after serving together in northern Italy, four U.S. Air Force veterans reunited in Wilmington to reconnect over a shared history defined by friendship, service and a deadly natural disaster. Sgts. Stan Christiana of New York, Eldon Langford of Florida, John Kenyon of Wilmington and Rick McGahey of Tennessee traveled from across the country to meet. Originally from New York, Florida and California, the men found common ground at Aviano Air Base in Italy during the 1970s.

Assigned to the 40th Tactical Group, 40th Security Police Squadron, Charlie “C” Flight, the four airmen worked side by side and formed a bond they say has lasted a lifetime.“As members of the ‘C’ Flight, we all worked together, shared the same days off and grew to think of each other as extended family,” one of the men said.
