Abruzzo exports to the United States continue to expand

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

In 2025 Italian exports to the United States continued to grow, and the Abruzzo region emerged as one of the most dynamic contributors to this trend. Nationally, the U.S. is one of Italy’s largest export markets, accounting for roughly 10.4 % of the country’s total overseas sales, second only to Germany’s 11.3 % share.

This sustained demand helped push Italian exports upward despite global trade uncertainties, including ongoing discussions around tariffs and trade policy.

Within this broader picture, Abruzzo’s businesses recorded an increase of approximately 7.2 % in shipments to the U.S. compared with the previous year. The region’s industrial base, particularly its pharmaceutical sector, has been a major force behind this expansion, showing a notable ability to meet American demand for high-value products. This performance reinforces Abruzzo’s role as a leading export hub among Italian regions and highlights its competitive edge in key advanced manufacturing sectors that resonate with U.S. buyers.

Abruzzo’s success also reflects its diversified industrial structure, which includes significant contributions from agri-food, machinery, and other high-technology sectors that align with global market needs. As Italian companies continue to strengthen their presence in North America, regional trade strategies are increasingly focused on supporting firms through export assistance programs, infrastructure improvements, and new international agreements designed to lower barriers and expand market access.

Despite the positive export trajectory, local leaders emphasize ongoing challenges, including the effects of economic headwinds in sectors like automotive and the need to extend Abruzzo’s footprint into emerging markets beyond traditional partners. By maintaining momentum with U.S. trade and diversifying into regions such as Latin America and Asia, Abruzzo aims to build on its export gains and ensure long-term resilience within the global economy.
