Gregory Spatz, author and director of the creative writing program and professor of creative writing at Eastern Washington University, will launch his new novel, “The Vivaldi Church,” on Friday at West Central Abbey. The novel follows three characters, distanced by time and geography but united by the music of Vivaldi.
Chiara is an 18th -century soloist for Venice’s Ospedali Grandi, a four-part institution that cared for the city’s orphaned, sick and destitute. She performs in its all-female orchestra and choir, the coro, which trained female pupils to perform concerts and religious services. Hidden from the eyes of the audience, she is known only by the sound of her performance.
