A national platform to support Italians returning from abroad

A new initiative aims to streamline and promote all programs designed to encourage Italians living abroad to return home and invest in their country. The effort, coordinated by the subcommittee on return incentives within the General Council of Italians Abroad, focuses on making information about relocation benefits more accessible, better organized, and easier to update.

One of the main goals is to ensure that every measure – from national tax breaks to local business incentives – is clearly communicated through a coordinated digital network. The plan includes creating a structured system to monitor and update these opportunities, strengthening Italy’s ability to attract skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and investors from around the world.

To achieve this, Italian embassies and consulates, chambers of commerce, trade agencies, and community associations abroad will be invited to share information through their institutional channels and special events. A digital newsletter written in clear, practical language will highlight programs relevant to different groups such as retirees, young professionals, researchers, and small businesses.

The proposal also includes establishing a permanent observatory that brings together national ministries, regional governments, and municipal associations. This body would map all available incentives, track the number of people benefiting from them, and suggest improvements based on real data. All information would be collected in a multilingual national portal – regularly updated, easy to navigate, and connected to official government websites. Each program would have a short summary, eligibility guidelines, and a step-by-step access guide.

These efforts, which require no additional cost to the state, are meant to strengthen Italy’s attractiveness as a place to live and work. By supporting the return of talent, families, and businesses, the initiative hopes to revitalize local communities and boost both regional and consular services.
