You’ve probably seen Scopello, Sicily before — a dreamy, sun-bleached bay that seems to embody il dolce far niente. Once a humble fishing village, this tiny borgo has become one of the island’s most sought-after seaside escapes in recent years. Made up of a small piazza, a handful of stone houses and a stretch of coast punctuated by dramatic sea stacks, travelers come for the water, the crystal-clear sea and the slower pace of life Italy is famous for.
I came for a little rest, relaxation and a rendezvous. After four flights and twenty-seven hours on the move, I arrived in Scopello for a spontaneous reunion with someone who flew out from the UK to meet me under the Sicilian sun.
