When we visited Treviso, we understood quickly why this small Veneto city works so well as a hidden gem near Venice. It has canals, medieval streets, painted houses, churches, palaces, city walls, and a calm local rhythm. It feels close to Venice, but it is clearly not Venice.
We chose Treviso for a day trip because it is less than 40 kilometres from Venice and easy to reach by train. The journey from Venezia Santa Lucia to Treviso Centrale takes about 37 minutes, which makes the city practical for travellers who want culture, architecture, and canals without spending hours in transit.
