23 races and a lifetime of stories: Jocko Maggiacomo Jr. is NASCAR’s unassuming innovator

Peeking through dozens of colorful rolls of vinyl in a back corner office of Chauncey “Jocko” Maggiacomo Jr.’s house in Salt Point are remnants of a past life. A blue-and-gray firesuit bearing the bright orange Fab detergent logo and the name “Jocko” hangs on the wall. Helmets — an old blue one with the same name in cursive and blank white ones that look even older — sit on skinny wooden shelves.

Maggiacomo and his wife, Debbie, have run Quick Signs & Auto Graphics from that small office for more than two decades. But before they built the sign business and settled into life with their two Italian greyhounds, Maggiacomo spent the 1970s and ’80s wearing that firesuit and that blue helmet, chasing racing’s biggest stages.
