Italy is peppered with pretty, culture-rich villages that look idyllic in the eyes of visitors. But thousands of these communities are suffering from depopulation as inhabitants seek better economic opportunities in cities. To combat this phenomenon, several regions and municipalities have implemented incentive programs to attract new residents. In short, they’ll pay you to live there. Here are some of the regional and municipal financial contributions currently offered in Italy.
Sunny Calabria Offers $31,000 To New Residents Of Villages
The ‘Reddito di Residenza Attiva’ project in Calabria offers up to €20,000 ($22,000) to those willing to move to small towns in mountainous areas with fewer than 3,000 inhabitants. Applicants must move their residency to the community and open a business. There is also a grant of €1,000 ($1,100) available for remote workers who move to Calabria's mountain villages.
