Slicing through the ancient lava flows of Mount Etna, the Alcantara River creates this totally stunning & breathtaking natural canyon known as the Gole dell'Alcantara in Sicily. Enchanting waterfalls, natural ponds, hexagon-shaped basalt columns, and deep, narrow gorges can totally be found there.
You'll also see these woodpile, harp, and rosette-like formations that are formed by basalt columns, which are mostly vertical with a few bent or horizontal ones. Their color and diameter vary because to oxidation, and some of them measure up to 30 meters tall. Along with hiking and wading, visitors can go body rafting, bike rides, and river trekking.
