You've probably heard us say that Austin restaurants seem to be infiltrating North Texas. (See Tacodeli, Torchy's Tacos, Uchi, Hopdoddy.) We're now seeing Chicago restaurants make their way here, too. Geno's East is reportedly heading to Arlington, and Al's Italian Beef just opened in Addison.
Al's claims it's the creator of the Italian beef sandwich. Texans might not be familiar with this Chicago staple, which is a thinly-sliced beef sandwich on a hoagie that traditionally comes submerged in "gravy" (au jus) and can make for a messy meal. Al's is among the best, if you ask Travel Channel's Adam Richman, who included it in a best sandwiches in America list.
