With roots dating back to 1933 in Trieste, Italy, Illy Caffe is a new kiosk in the Staten Island Mall’s new food district. Founded by Francesco Illy -- who also invented the illetta, an espresso machine -- the cafe serves up a bevy of coffees, lattes, iced flavored coffee drinks, cappuccinos and espressos, as well as a menu filled with Italian sandwiches and other delights.
The franchise co-owner, Hassan Muyir, says while the kiosk recently opened in a space in front of Dave and Buster’s, he plans to expand in the New Springville Mall’s newly renovated foot district. The space is part of the shopping center’s 242,000-square-foot expansion that welcomed a host of new retailers and restaurants.
