Rhode Island's queen of food, Gail Ciampa, always knows what’s cooking, from innovative new restaurants to old favorites. Here’s a little more about her, including how she landed the coveted position of Journal food editor. (She also has her own food-centric newsletter, which you can sign up for at providencejournal.com/newsletters.) How long have you been at The Providence Journal, and how did you get here?
I came to The Journal 32 years ago, when I saw the job posting for a fashion writer. I was writing features at the Worcester Telegram. I’d been there for seven years, and I thought — I want to be at a bigger paper and I could write about fashion. What was that like? It was not my favorite. I found it hard to make it relatable, but we had a freestanding section.
