Modern Italian restaurant Mazzo Cucina D'Italia has closed less than a year after debuting in downtown Grand Rapids. The eatery, at 122 Monroe Center NW, closed April 7. Uccello's Hospitality Group, which owns the prime downtown real estate, plans to bring in its popular Uccello's Ristorante brand, which has several locations in West Michigan and a more affordable menu.
The restaurant is slated to open May 7. "We want to create a place for our loyal guests to visit while they are exploring our ever-changing city. A place to enjoy Uccello's Italian dishes, beer selection and local sports lounge atmosphere," said Chris Heileman, CEO for the Uccello's Hospitality Group, in a statement.
