For years, the Indianapolis restaurant at 1351 W. 86th St. has served Italian food, first at Amalfi and then Matteo’s, but the latest tenant’s Italian restaurant is different.Qualita doesn’t serve the typical a la carte list of individual appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Instead, chef/owner Charles Mereday, who recently revamped Downtown Indy’s Rebar with wow dishes like crispy, sticky sour apple ribs and watermelon salsa fried fish tacos, sources top-notch ingredients for a set, four-course menu of refined, Italian-inspired cooking.
Heavy on seafood, with dishes like lobster cannelloni and grilled octopus with white beans, red mustard leaves and tapenade, Qualita offers the prix fixe menu only, although you may choose from various selections for each course. “I want to cook at the highest level I possibly can,” Mereday said. “This is kind of my shot at it here in Indy.”
