San Francisco says goodbye to Lucca Ravioli

As soon as Lucca Ravioli Co. opened its doors Tuesday morning, the place was packed with people and sorrow. It was the last day for the 94-year-old Mission District business, and regulars dropped by to pay respects. They took selfies in front of the windows, covered with hand-painted signs.

They reminisced about their earliest Lucca experiences. And they filled cardboard boxes with one last haul: boxes of beef ravioli, bags of cheese tortellini, tubs of marinara and whatever else they could fit. San Francisco resident Rob Ellis estimates he’s visited Lucca, which is on the corner of 22nd and Valencia streets, every Saturday for the past five years for his sandwich and pasta needs.
