Two Brewster High School students were recognized last month for their Italian prowess at a ceremony at Eastchester High School. Senior Julia Giardina and junior Sofia Ruggiero received awards for excellence in Italian from the Westchester Coalition of Italian American Organizations.
“The two students were not just chosen for their grades in Italian, but their fluency in the language,” said Italian teacher Antonio Franzè. Students throughout Westchester and Putnam counties were presented with certificates of excellence by Judge Francis Nicolai and Westchester County Executive George Latimer. Giardina and Ruggiero were chosen out of about 120 Brewster High School students who are taking Italian.
