West Tampa jeweler Guido Maniscalco pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory Tuesday to defeat engineer Jackie Toledo by a razor-thin margin in the runoff race for City Council District 6. Toledo led Maniscalco by 17 points in the three-way March 3 election and raised about $161,000 in campaign contributions, roughly three times more than Maniscalco.
But buoyed by a surge of support on Election Day, Maniscalco overturned the deficit to win a council seat at his second attempt. In unofficial results, he received 3,731 votes or 51 percent to 3,580 or 49 percent for Toledo.
