Trinity Episcopal Church on Ford Avenue was without a rector for 16 months, but the church's long wait for a pastor has ended with the arrival of the Rev. David Carletta, who took over the duties earlier this month. His first Sunday as rector was Oct. 6. Carletta, 51, a Rochester, New York, native, was most recently the associate rector at an Episcopal church in Germantown, Tennessee, an assignment that came on the heels of a similar role at an Episcopal church in Collierville, Tennessee, which is very close to Germantown, just east of Memphis.

The Rev. Pat Connell retired as Trinity's rector in June 2017 after nearly two decades. In January, the Rev. Jane Rothman, pastor at Faith Lutheran Church on Frederica Street, stepped in to lead worship services at Trinity while also continuing to serve at Faith Lutheran. Carletta and his wife Susanne have a 5-year-old daughter, Lucia. He is an Italian-American while his wife hails from Canada. Raised Catholic, Carletta began attending an Episcopal church in San Francisco while in college.
