For the month of September, Commerce Street will be known as Sen Gennaro Way. The renaming of one of Yorktown Heights’ main thoroughfares coincides with the return of the Feast of San Gennaro. The third annual festival celebrating Italian heritage will be held on Commerce Street/San Gennaro Way from Wednesday, Sept. 13, to Sunday, Sept. 17.
The highway department has installed two street signs where Commerce Street/San Gennaro Way intersects Hanover Street and Underhill Avenue. The signs were paid for by Highway Superintendent Dave Paganelli. For the first time since it debuted in 2015, the festival will be five days long. Last year, it was four days long. The festival is organized annually by CCM of Westchester, a nonprofit organization.
