Thursday, August 13, 2015 the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum went back to the past to the Renaissance period with a compelling presentation, focused on Michelangelo Buonarroti, by Ph. D Francesco Santoro. The event organized and sponsored in collaboration with the National Organization of Italian American Women (NOIAW), had been attended by almost thirty guests-- both Italian and American. The interactive lecture sparked discussions regarding Michelangelo and the Renaissance with Dr. Santoro, a history scholar and a world‐known artist.

Born in Italy, Dr. Santoro studied to become an artist, sculpture, historian, and art restorer. He was trained under the famous Italian painter and writer of the metaphysical artistic trend and founder of the "Scuola Metafisica" Giorgio De Chirico. He became an artist for the Vatican, creating religious art works and frescos around the world. Currently, he lives in Venezuela, where he has frescoed the Shrine of St. Anthony in Valencia and where he has founded the Academia de Arte Giovanni Battista Scalabrini.

This is his second summer in New York City to where he has given lectures about Michelangelo Buonarroti, the greatest master of the Renaissance. A man, whose work stands up in brilliant fashion to scrutiny, centuries later. A true mark of excellence.

The lecture gave a deep and complete presentation of Michelangelo's art works and the influences of the period on his life as artist. The lecture enhanced with the demonstration of pictures and videos through a power point was given in Italian with a simultaneous translation in English. At the end of the lecture Dr. Santoro expressed the desire to come back next summer with a series of lecture on the Italian art hosted by the Garibaldi‐Meucci Museum. For this reason, stay tuned!
