The Rockland Sons of Italy Lodge 2176 recently held a fundraiser for Homes for Heroes in conjunction with Rockland County Legislator John Murphy who has championed the program through Habitat for Humanity of Rockland. The event raised $2,000 for the local charity.
Two local nonprofit organizations, Rockland Housing Action Coalition and Joseph's Home, Inc., conceived the Homes for Heroes project which has a goal of providing permanent, supportive and affordable rental housing for homeless, service disabled veterans and their families in the two-four unit garden-style apartment buildings on the site of the former Camp Shanks in Tappan.
