Celebrate your Italian heritage or just your love of Italian food and drink at Fredonia’s Third Annual Festival Italia at Fredonia’s Barker Common Park this Saturday from 12 to 7 p.m. According to Steve Keefe, committee co-chair, the festival is taking place about a month earlier this year, for multiple reasons. “We wanted to get a jump on festival season by being one of the first. Last year, we were in competition with other events, but then there’s always a lot going on in the summer. We’re hoping that lots of people will come down with family who will be in town for the holiday weekend.”
The rich history of Italy and Sicily will be celebrated through Italian music, dancing, food, delicious desserts and wine, Keefe hopes. “Things were up in the air recently due to the village board’s discussion of the alcohol ordinance. But we are welcoming wineries and brewhouses — they can still be a part of it.”
