Gardner Museum to host talk on Italian migration to Central Mass.

Fitchburg State University Professor Teresa Fava Thomas will present a program on migration from Italy to Central Massachusetts at The Gardner Museum on Thursday, May 12.


The presentation will explore traditional life in the mountains above Venice, Italy, and the reasons why people migrated to Central Massachusetts between 1880 and 1920. The talk will discuss the immigrants' work on the Wachusett Reservoir (Clinton Dam) project and in quarries and factories, as well as their efforts to become citizens during the 1920s through 1940s, the era of the Sacco and Vanzetti trial and World War II, during which Italy was allied with Germany.
