Christopher Columbus statue in Connecticut is beheaded

Someone put the “cut” in Connecticut. A Christopher Columbus statue outside City Hall in Waterbury, Conn., was discovered decapitated Saturday morning, and cops were investigating, The Hartford Courant reported. After the monument to the colonizer was beheaded, the local chapter of UNICO, an Italian American service organization, offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the gray statue’s executioner.

“We are saddened by this action of violence as it does not represent the message of thanksviging the statue embodies to the Italian-American community,” Unico said on Twitter. Likenesses of Columbus litter the country but have become common targets of demonstrations in recent weeks amid nationwide protests against racism.
